"Peddler Wagon" 1897, New York City by Martin Petersen

We are pleased to offer this important original early oil painting on panel depicting life on the streets of New York City's Lower East Side by the well listed Danish-Americam painter and illustrator Martin Petersen 1866-1943.

Martin Petersen is a listed artist known for his large body of works as a professional medical illustrator at Columbia University and as an chronicler and etcher of New York City street scenes.

This important and colorful little painting by Petersen pre-figures the much later gritty urban scenes of America's Ashcan School and such artists as Reginald Marsh and Joan Sloan among others.
